As the nation gears up for this year’s Holi festivities, Vinti Lodha, shares the beautiful tradition of ‘Phoolon Ki Holi’ she started at Lodha in partnership with ISKCON. The idea came naturally to Vinti, as she has undergone several courses at ISKCON, Chowpatty and attended various festive celebrations there year after year.
“I was going for almost every other Janmashtami or other festivals that they would celebrate, and I felt very drawn to it,” says Vinti.
Her desire to share India’s rich cultural heritage with her own children and their friends resulted in the first holi celebration. “I had this one Phoolon Ki Holi festival on our terrace many years ago. That was with the aim of getting my kids and my friends’ kids together to understand why Holi is celebrated and its significance. They did it the traditional way by playing with rose petals. They also learnt the story of Radha and Krishna and how Holi came to be. I found that very beautiful,” she reveals, adding that it was a resounding success and inspired her to share it with the larger diverse and vibrant community at Lodha Park.
Vinti’s passion for community building is in line with Lodha’s motto of ‘Building a Better Life’ for their residents and the planet. She ensures the spring festival is celebrated with sustainability and diversity ensuring inclusion across ages, genders, and religions. Using the petals instead of powdered colours prevents unnecessary water use and waste. By championing environmental responsibility in this way, the Lodha resident community can rediscover the real reason we celebrate Holi.
The first Phoolon Ki Holi celebration was held before pandemic at Lodha Park and saw good response from the residents. After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the initiative came back with a bang this year, “The first time we did it, this is before the pandemic, it was 500 people, and then it went on to 1000. This time, we had more than 2000 people attend!” she smiles.
Not only has Phoolon Ki Holi helped encourage community building within Lodha residents, Vinti finds that it also spreads joy and positivity among people. “Going beyond the usual fun & frolic associated with Holi, this festivity transforms it to almost an ethereal, serene experience. Now it's become a festival that the residents look forward to every single year,” she says. So much so, that this year, Phoolon Ki Holi will also be celebrated at Lodha World Towers as well as Palava City. Vinti's dedication to fostering a sense of oneness and spreading joy and positivity has resulted in a beautiful tradition that has truly touched the hearts of many.
